Participant Commentary on the Cook Island Conference
Of the entire conference, the most stimulating and the most actionable presentation was given by Friday's keynote speaker, Trinidad Hunt. She spoke about developing our "Children as Teachers of Peace".
Today's children represent an enormous possibility for a new way of peace in our world. As parents, educators, community members and models, we can help to guide them to a new paradigm of peaceful living. We can help them to develop their full potential to contribute positively to society.
Trinidad stated that "If you do not grow to become and exceptional leader, it is because one area is out of balance." To develop their full leadership potential, children's development needs to move toward a balance of IQ, EQ and SQ.
IQ, the Intelligence quality, relates to how we use our minds, how we think and how we approach things.
EQ, the Emotional quality, relates to how we react to things, and how we manage our energy as we move through life.
SQ, the Social quality, relates to empathy and caring.
All three are integrated to become the Whole Person. There needs to be a loving and peaceful environment for children to develop and balance their IQ, EQ and SQ so that each one can achieve their maximum potential to be teachers of peace.
