Introducing PPSEAWA's New International President
Nanasipau'u was born the eldest child of Baron Vaea and Baroness Tuputupu Vaea. She grew up on the island of Tongatapu in the Kingdom of Tonga, but made frequent visits to the other islands due to her father's varied government positions.
Nanasi began her high school education at Queen Salote College, a girl's school in Nuku'alofa. It was there that she developed her love for her people. She then studied for two years in Melbourne, Australia before joining her family in England where her father had been appointed Tonga's first High Commissioner to Great Britain.
After more than five years of schooling in England, Nanasi returned to work and later to marry in Tonga. In December 1982, the youngest son of HM Tupou IV, HRH Prince 'Ulukalala Lavaka Ata Tuku'aho and Nanasipau'u Vaea were joined in marriage. They have three children. Their oldest child, Princess Angelika Mata'aho will be graduating from high school in Switzerland this year. Prince 'Aho 'eitu, their eldest son, is presently studying in Tupou College in Tonga. Their youngest son, Prince Viliami is studying in Australia.
Princess Nanasi is active in her local church. She is involved in her community as the chairperson of both Queen Salote College Old Girls' Association executive committee and PPSEAWA Tonga's steering committee. She is also an active member of the PTA and assists in various committees in her village. Included in her work with women is her service as a patron of the Women's and Children's Centre, YWCA, the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Centre and the Hihifo District's Women's Committee.
HRH Prince 'Ulukalala Lavaka Ata succeeded Baron Vaea as Prime Minister on January 2, 2000. As wife of Tonga's Prime Minister, Princess Nanasi has an extremely busy schedule with a lot of responsibilities to her family and her country.
