American Samoa Report

Membership has been gradually increasing since the re-activation of the chapter in March 1996. Becky Howland who has worked to revive the chapter and has been a very active member for 24 years decided not to run for office in December, feeling that a new team of officers could bring new ideas and enthusiasm to the chapter. Becky has served in all five officer's positions: secretary, treasurer, public relations, vice president and president. She wishes to thank Ke-o Polvado, vice president and Josephine Lam Yuen, treasurer, for taking the responsibility in 1996 for the secretary's responsibilities. The new officers elected in December 1996 were: Sylvina Perez, president; Josephine Lam Yuen, vice president; Nelita Elumba, secretary; Matalena Kitiona, treasurer; Percilla Cranallo, public relations.

At a meeting on December 30, it was decided to hold the one-day youth follow-up meeting to the "Women, Family, and Health Workshop," on March 15 at the Fono/Legislative Samoan Guest Fale/House at Fagatogo.

A combined installation of officers and Christmas party were held on December 19, 1996. Dr. Trudie Iuli, a new member, was Mistress of Ceremonies and administered the Oath of Office to the new Executive Council members.

PPSEAWA American Samoa is looking forward to the conference in Kuala Lumpur and has four confirmed members who have registered, and hopefully more will join them in the delegation.
