"Women Accessing Information Technology" 14 May 1999, 10.00 AM - 3.00 PM, Sydney Girl's High School Moore Park, Sydney

As part of the Annual Conference to be held in Sydney 12 - 16 May, 1999 two exciting seminars will be held. One on "Women Accessing the Law" and the other "Women Accessing Information Technology"

The Seminar "Women Accessing The Law" objective is: The empowering of women by offering a platform of high profile speakers who are involved in the various aspects of Law which concerns women in particular. We will be inviting specialists in the areas that are of particular interest and concern to women, ie: The direction of Law with regard to women; Family Law, including custody and guardianship of children and domestic violence; Employment and the role of the Trades and Labor Council; Injury at the work place, including Worker's compensation; Community Legal Aid and other support facilities; etc. We are also planning to offer visits to the various courts in the Sydney business district on the day following the Seminar.

The Seminar "Women Accessing Information Technology" will give all participants hands on experience to learn the skills needed to access the internet and in the use of email. Speakers who can encourage and give the reasons why all women must be involved in the new age of Information Technology will be part of the forum.

Target Groups: NGO Women's organisations, ethnic and aboriginal women, Teaching staff of High schools and TAFE colleges involved in teaching women's and/or legal studies.

Invitations will be sent to Member Countries of PPSEAWA to send representatives, particularly young women interested in a career in law or politics. Approaches will be made to the Australian Government for funding to assist these people in attending. Accommodation has been booked at YWCA Sydney for participants.
