New Zealand Report
PPSEAWA New Zealand held its National Conference recently in Wanganui. Delegates were warmly welcomed by the Mayor, Mr. Charles Poynter QSO JP, who extended his best wishes for a successful conference. The Rev. Valerie Hogan, a member of PPSEAWA International, read the Opening Prayer. The Keynote Speakers were Lady Rhyll Jansen, National President of the United Nations Association of New Zealand, who gave a very interesting address on the work of the United Nations and told us of the programmes organized by the United Nations Association of New Zealand. She encouraged us to support the U.N.A. and to particularly support women.
Reports were given by the Rev. Valerie Hogan on the PPSEAWA International Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and by Teresa Friel on the two day Pre-Conference Workshop. Reports were also given on the NCW National Executive Meeting and the U.N.A. by Freda Bleasdale, as well as reports on our various trusts and funds, and our involvement in the New Horizons for Women Trust.
This year a new National President, Freda Bleasdale, and a new National Secretary, Carol Woodbury, were elected. We congratulate then and wish them well for their term of office.
During the conference, National Life Membership was bestowed on the retiring National President, Teresa Friel, in recognition of her years of work for PPSEAWA, particularly the last five years as National President.
A very successful conference concluded with the conference dinner and some lovely entertainment provided by the Cook Islands Group and a Japanese group.
