The idea of Platters came from the need to respond financially following the devastating tsunami some years ago. A discussion took place at the interim council meeting in Samoa and it was suggested that a recipe book be produced. As Peace Ambassador I took the idea on board and on my return to Australia put into train requests to national member associations for poetry, prose, photos, paintings and platters (recipes) from PPSEAWA members and their friends.

The year began with a flurry, especially as we had the responsibility of organizing the IWD Luncheon in March as well as planning our programme for the year. Our Secretary, Marjorie Wood has been kept busy arranging speakers for our monthly meetings as well as performing many administrative duties. .

We hold our monthly meetings at QEII Family Centre at Curtin. After the meeting, we often have a guest speaker. Our last speaker was our National President, Coral, who gave an interesting and informative talk about events at the Hawaii meeting and an update on the Bali Conference in 2010, which is our current main interest. Judith Ann suggested we make a club banner for this and she and Joon gave us an idea of what it would be like. We expect busy Sunday afternoons completing the project.

Visiting the Australian Consulate for morning tea with the Australian Consul Peter Grant, his wife Kath and cultural officer Candice was a highlight for me in Hawaii but how it came about was even more interesting.

I'm sure many who went to the Cook Islands PPSEAWA International Conference in 2000 will remember Leilani Bin-Juda who was one of the two Australian youth delegates who distinguished themselves at the conference.

On Wednesday 5th March the Girl Guide Training property "Glengarry" located at Turramurra was the site for a luncheon to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day.

This very happy luncheon was organised by Pan Pacific South East Asia Women's Association to raise funds to support UNIFEM AUSTRALIA's work to give women in this region opportunities for economic and political empowerment so to engender an equitable and sustainable future and for PPSEAWA's International Fund.

Beverley Pavey

3/9/1944 - 7/3/2008

Whatever one says about Beverley Pavey, some things of importance will be omitted. She was such a vibrant, interested, concerned, understanding and caring individual that it is difficult to cover all her attributes. She was adored by her husband, Andrew, her two children, Christopher and Catherine, and her large circle of friends.
