To PPSEAWA Member Associations: announcing A PEACE Challenge.

You are invited to participate in a PPSEAWA Peace Challenge for 2011 to 2013.

15 October 2008

This report is long overdue. In March of 2007, in Auckland, New Zealand, at its first Board Meeting, the newly elected PPSEAWA International Council agreed to accept PPSEAWA Hawaii's invitation to hold the MIDTERM COUNCIL MEETING, in Honolulu, leaving open the date.

The invitations for May of 2008, went out early October 2007. The International Executive Council worked hard to prepare the Agenda, related documents and to set the format for the Council Sessions.

From Rebeca Massey, Chicago Chapter

It is amazing how fast time goes by. A few months ago I was looking forward with great anticipation to being part of the US, delegation to this my first conference, I wanted to hear and support the issues that concern the PPSEAWA woman. I was eager and intrigued to finally meet the women whose names I have heard through members of my chapter.

It wasn't too long ago that our delegation was in Singapore celebrating the 75th anniversary of PPSEAWA and enjoying a very special and stimulating 22nd PPSEAWA International Conference. The theme of the conference, "Sharing a Culture of Peace" gave us guidelines - concrete plans and strategies for the achievement of a peace that will last. By the sharing of success stories, best practices and experiences as well as potential pitfalls, we were challenged to a greater passion in the pursuit of peace.

The delayed Conference, originally scheduled for August 2003, finally took place in Singapore without any problems. It was attended by 17 PPSEAWA National Chapters, including the USA with 19 participants, led by our National President Helen Chong. Unfortunately PPSEAWA International President HRH Princess Nanasipau'u Tuku'aho did not attend because of a family emergency. Vice President Valerie Hogan from New Zealand took over the running of the conference together with 2nd Vice President Mary Cabrera from Australia.

One of the most memorable days in Singapore was a special side trip for sixteen members of the U.S. delegation. Kartini Hidayat, wife of the Indonesian Ambassador and former member of the PPSEAWA-New York Chapter, graciously arranged for the Indonesian Embassy bus to pick us up from the YWCA Fort Canning. The city tour showed the diverse cultures of the Malays, Indian, Peranakan and Chinese heritage. We saw the countless contrasts of the old and cosmopolitan New Asia - Singapore.

1 July 2004

My first PPSEAWA conference was very much a delightful and wonderful surprise. However, I must admit that I had to be coerced into attending by my sister, Roseann Levy. We had been slated to attend last year's conference but as you know, that had been called off due to the SARS epidemic.

1 April 2004

PPSEAWA -USA candidates for International Council's offices are:

  • Teresa Hintzke, Vice President
  • Lillian Jasko (incumbent), Treasurer

Since Princess Nanasipau`u Tuku`aho, President, will not be running for re-election, we endorse Valerie Hogan, First Vice President from New Zealand for the office of the Presidency.
