Minnesota Chapter

25 September 2008

The chapter has not met and we have few members.  We have made two donations, $250 to the Sewing Machine fund and $200 towards women’s work in New Zealand.  We are working to determine our future.

1 December 2007

Our first meeting of the fall began with our Annual Meeting at the home of Corrine Pearson, President. We currently have ten members. Our officers are President- Corrine Pearson, Treasurer- Ann Aurelius, chapter Representative- Dixie Riley, Secretary-open.

On Wednesday, October 25, at the Lyndale Park Peace Garden, the "Spirit of peace" sculpture and our own Peace Pole were dedicated. The celebration was held on Remember Sadako Day. We plan to meet in early December and again in February. The February meeting will be to celebrate the Vietnamese New Year.

1 September 2007

PPSEAWA Minnesota has 11 members. Most of our members are active with Southeast Asian and Pacific Island peoples and events in our community.

1 August 2005

Our first meeting in the fall was an Asian dinner featuring food from several well-known Asian restaurants in the area. Louise Allstrom, a member who recently moved here from Australia, presented her work with Afghan refugees in Australia. Mary Lehrmen, horticulturist for the Minneapolis Park System brought a model of the sculpture representing ten thousand cranes that will be placed in the Peace Garden Project. We have voted to combine our own Peace Garden with the one at Lynndale Park and donate the remainder of our Peace Garden Fund to that program.

1 April 2004

Our chapter now has 16 members. We started our year by touring the exhibit, "Appreciating China: Gifts from Bruce and Ruth Dayton," an extraordinary exhibit given to the Minneapolis Art Institute. After the tour, we gathered at the Rainbow Chinese Restaurant for dinner and discussion.

An added bonus was the presence of Judy Grodin, our PPSEAWA international representative to the UN. She shared with us information about our association with the UN and her role there.
