The International Secretary and I were invited to attend the Pacific Day Seminar hosted by the New Zealand Embassy in Washington DC, where we represented PPSEAWA.
I departed Fiji on April 24 and headed first for Wellington, New Zealand to visit the PPSEAWA NZ Branch there and to meet its National President, Beryl Vincent, and local members. Beside meeting with PPSEAWA members, I was privileged to be included in the impressive annual ANZAC Day commemorative Ceremonies. I then went to Auckland to visit its PPSEAWA Branch.
Continuing in my aim to make personal contact with PPSEAWA National organizations,Taina Woodward, International Secretary, and I went to Fiji in April. We were welcomed by Fiji National President Neomai Katonivualiku and Ravesi Johnston, PPSEAWA International 1st Vice President, who is also the Chairperson for the PPSEAWA 2013 International Conference, to be held in Fiji. We were able to inspect the Novotel Hotel, which is to be the main accommodation facility for the delegates, as well as two other hotels that are to be alternate accommodations.
PPSEAWA International for many years has had a permanent representative to ESCAP, presently Dr, Chaiskran Hiranpruk, who attends these sessions on regular basis. In addition, PPSEAWA Thailand is also actively participating in this UN entity which focuses on the Asia/Pacific region.
The CoNGO Board in December 2007 recognized the proposed establishment of what was then called the CoNGO Regional Committee for Asia, as called for by 20 member agencies in conformity with CoNGO Rules. After its initial meeting in 2009, the CoNGO Board first determined the following basic point: the region covered would be the entire geographic area of Asia, including the Asian Pacific. The body would therefore be named the CoNGO Regional Committee for Asia-Pacific (RCAP)
Consultation Day was the “kickoff’ for the CSW 56th Forum, entitled “Empowering Rural Women; t heir needs and struggles as well as their successes”. Michelle Bachelet, Executive Director, UN Women, was the speaker.
