UNIFEM

16 November 2010

On July 2 the GA passed a resolution to create UN Women. In the months leading up to the resolution, international feminists became increasingly giddy as the culmination of their four year effort to create a bigger more effective UN agency for women grew closer. UN Women unites the four previous agencies working for women including UNIFEM, the entity most focused on country level programming. The transition is in process and UN Women will be officially fully operational by January 1, 2011.

Dear PPSEAWA Sisters

On Wednesday 5th March the Girl Guide Training property "Glengarry" located at Turramurra was the site for a luncheon to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day.

This very happy luncheon was organised by Pan Pacific South East Asia Women's Association to raise funds to support UNIFEM AUSTRALIA's work to give women in this region opportunities for economic and political empowerment so to engender an equitable and sustainable future and for PPSEAWA's International Fund.

It wasn't too long ago that our delegation was in Singapore celebrating the 75th anniversary of PPSEAWA and enjoying a very special and stimulating 22nd PPSEAWA International Conference. The theme of the conference, "Sharing a Culture of Peace" gave us guidelines - concrete plans and strategies for the achievement of a peace that will last. By the sharing of success stories, best practices and experiences as well as potential pitfalls, we were challenged to a greater passion in the pursuit of peace.
