At a June meeting, we wrote letters to all Congressmen and Senators urging them to support legislation to establish a Cabinet level Department of Peace; we have had no response to our requests so far.  Shirani secured donations from two of her friends and we were able to meet our goal to sponsor the two girls in Tibet during 2007 and the first half of 2008.  The tuition fees for 2008 have risen to $1200 for a year.  Pamela Logan has informed us that the girls we sponsor are doing Ok despite the problems in that country.  We hope we will be able to continue supporting them with tuition

The Los Angeles chapter has focused on one project for the last few years. We are sponsoring three "Scholarship Girls" in Litang, Tibet. The Middle School girls are aided by our financial contributions which help pay for their tuition, room, and board. Our meetings include updates on the girls with photographs, videos and letters brought back from Tibet by Kham Aid Foundation coordinator, Dr. Pamela Logan. Most of our meetings are also fundraisers and some include guests.

The Los Angeles chapter currently has 15 members. Our chapter sponsors several girls through middle school and high school in Litang, Tibet. Dr. Pamela Logan, who works through Kham Aid Foundation, gives updates on the girls at our meetings.

We have raised money for our sister chapter in Sri Lanka during 2006-07 through contributions from our own chapter as well as the Toledo chapter to assist the tsunami disaster victims. Shirani visited the recipients of the sewing machines we purchased. She returned from Sri Lanka with many beautifully sewn items that she purchased from the Sri Lankan chapter of PPSEAWA to help them raise funds. These items included table cloths, napkins, sofa cushion covers, nightgowns, blouses, and lace items such as doilies and lace table runners.

The Los Angeles chapter currently has nine members. This year we had two meetings. Our March 26th meeting was held at Pamela Logan's home. We discussed the progress made by the two girls in Tibet sponsored by our chapter through Kham Aid Foundation. Dramatic changes in China's education policy were explained by Pamela Logan. One girl will be attending Senior High School in Ganzi and the other will be studying at a medical vocational school to become a nurse. Cost of sponsoring the girls had increased.

The Los Angeles chapter currently has 13 members. Shirani is now a co-president and the treasurer! We are continuing with our scholarship program for two middle school students in Litang. We receive letters from them periodically with an English translation. They are very grateful to us for supporting them through middle school. Dr. Pamela Logan visits them often and reports to us on their progress.
