Our September meeting was held in conjunction with the PPSEAWA/USA annual Meeting and UN luncheon. We held a reception for the out-of-town members and guests whom we entertained with a bountiful buffet of international foods provided by our own members. In October we were invited to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office where we were greeted by the New Ambassador, the Honorable Kenneth K.N. Liao who addressed us on the current status of ‘Taiwan and the UN.” It was a late afternoon meeting and we enjoyed a buffet of many Chinese delicacies. Our Christmas luncheon included a successful raffle with gifts provided by the members and friends.

The new Ambassador to the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Tonga, the Honorable Fekitamoeloa Utoikamanu told us about her country and its efforts to meet the growing needs of her people while keeping their revered customs alive. February marked the year of the Rat according to the Chinese calendar and we celebrated at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office decorated for the occasion. We had a Chinese buffet and were entertained by classical and modern Chinese musicians and dancers of all ages. Ms. Catherine E. Moore, Coordinator and Head Representative of the International Federation of University Women (IFUW/USA) at the UN attended.

Our April event was at the Japan Society where we were served tea and Japanese sweets and heard a lecture on 16th and 17th century Japanese lacquerware. We took a tour with a guide through this exhibit. In May, we will tour the Museum of the City of New York and in June, we will hold elections for the coming year. Eleanor Schlesinger, our UN rep will speak on current UN activities and the importance of our association with the UN. We have 100 members.
