Munyan, Shirley Boberg

A longtime resident of Manhattan, died on January 20, 2009 at the age of 86 years. She is survived by her husband, Winthrop R. Munyan of Manhattan, by two sisters, Marjorie Boberg Aurelius of Birchwood Wisconsin and Imogene Boberg Christian of Lillydale, Minnesota, five nieces and four nephews.

Mrs. Munyan was born in St. Paul, Minnesota the eldest daughter of Walfred Erick Boberg and Florence Johnson Boberg October 12, 1922. She attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Following that she had a long career with Stewart Dougall and Associates in marketing and research and thereafter was a Senior Supervisor at R. H. Macy & Co., Herald Square.

In her work with the Pan Pacific and Southeast Asia Women’s Association and the International Council of Women, Shirley was an avid supporter of global causes and committed to advancement of women in the areas of education, health and human rights. For years she represented PPSEAWA at UNESCO, Paris. She also served the board of the Oratorio Society of New York.

A memorial service will be held at the Frank Campbell Funeral Home on February 17, 2009 in Manhattan. The Reverend Marjorie Aurelius will coordinate the service.
